Why I Write

On Quibb I was asked to comment on Hunter Walk’s recent post, More Google Execs Should Blog, Tweet, Share Online. I thought I would share my response here as well:

I write to:

  1. Have fun. I enjoy writing. Ironically, I hated it while in school.
  2. Refine my ideas. I’ve found that the more I write and (attempt) to articulate my studies of startups and product, the more analytical I become.
  3. Connect with other people. I enjoy every ‘thank you’, RT, and 'like’ I receive. I don’t receive much but the recognition is appreciated and I’ve spoke with and met many people through my blog.

I completely agree with Hunter and have had recent conversations on this topic. There’s so much institutional knowledge that never gets shared outside of companies and individuals’ head.

I’d like to see some creative ideas or startups unlock this wealth of unshared knowledge. The biggest problem is the difficulty and time it takes to write. It’s tough. I still take way too long to write sucky content.
