The search for the Weekend Fund Chief of Staff

Is that you? :)

UPDATE, FEB 17, 2019: Thanks to everyone that took the time to apply. I found an amazing person to join me and the fund to be announced later in the year. For those interested in still getting involved, join the mentor community.

About the fund

I started Weekend Fund in 2017, shortly after AngelList’s acquisition of Product Hunt. The $3M fund invests in early stage startups with check sizes ranging from $50K to $100K. While the fund invests broadly, here are a few areas of specific interest.

As I’m expanding operations, I’m looking for a Chief of Staff part-time (6 to 10 hours/week) to work closely with me to scale operations and better support the portfolio.

The responsibilities of this role are broad. You would help to:

  • Identify and source potential investment opportunities.
  • Support the existing portfolio (here are some of the companies you’d be working with).
  • Conduct market research and help with diligence.
  • Build and support the newly formed Weekend Fund mentor community.
  • Manage administrative housecleaning and schedule meetings.

What I’m looking for

I’m taking our time to find the right person who is:

  • Humble and eager to do both fun and not so fun managerial tasks.
  • Intellectually curious and deeply immersed in tech.
  • Incredibly driven and autonomous. You should be able to come up with your own work.
  • Attentive to detail. It’s a good thing if you obsess over presentation and the “small” things because they matter.
  • Optimistic and realistic!
  • Ideally located in the North America timezone although this isn’t a strict requirement.
  • Different than me. Diversity of thought and experiences is a healthy trait of all teams (related).

Why you might be interested

This isn’t a traditional job. Those that are eager to learn and are considering a future career as a founder or investor would be a good fit. You might be a student or full-time employed professional.

While the current fund does not accept a management fee (i.e. cash) from LPs, the next fund will. Candidates will earn cash and carry and I will work with the CoS to establish a package that meets their needs if they prefer more cash than carry or vice versa.

How to apply

If you’re interested in joining, send ryan@weekend.fund an email with answers to the following:

  1. A link to your AngelList, Twitter, and LinkedIn profiles.
  2. What’s your current job and what do you love about it?
  3. What do you hope to get out of this?
  4. Describe a side or creative project you worked on? Did you learn anything from it?
  5. What spaces within tech (e.g. crypto, audio/voice, biotech) are you particularly interested in and why?
  6. If you had $100K to invest in one early stage startup, which one would it be and why?

I want to be respectful of your time so please don’t spend too much time on the questions above!

If you know someone that might be a good fit for this role, please forward this job description along. 😊
