Om

Om Malik left us on June 24. I cried when I heard the news. He was only 59.

Immediately after his passing, the internet exploded with appreciation and stories. He made more than a dent. It’s inspiring.

It made me reflect: What really matters? What will people say and feel when I’m gone?

I know, these are very cliché reflections but that doesn’t make them any less significant.

He was always supportive to me, going back to the early days of Product Hunt, when we first met. He was a cheerleader, but didn’t hold back with his opinions. He shared his honest take because he cared.

Perhaps we should all be a bit more honest with those we champion and love.

My last meeting with Om was in March. I’m grateful I got a chance to see him, but I’m also sad that it was the last time. The final goodbye is only revealed with hindsight.

Appreciate you, Om.

P.S. Om showed up for Product Hunt’s 10th anniversary, just one illustration of his support.

P.P.S. One of Om’s closest friends, Matt Mullenweg, is putting together a celebration on September 29, what would have been Om’s 60th birthday. Sign up for OmFest.
